Camacho Liberty Series 2017

Hello Cigar Fans! A lot has been going on at the Box since my last post. We have been planning an event with Altadis, manufacturer of such brands as Montecristo and Romeo y Julieta, for the end of July. Not only is an Altadis rep showing up with great deals on cigars, but we also teamed up with Flux Salon in downtown OKC for this very special occasion. Anyone who frequents the store is aware that I have been growing out my hair for some time now. As much as I enjoy the mane, its time must come to an end. On July 28th April McLaughlin, owner and operator of Flux Salon, will be helping me donate my hair to Locks for Love. On top of that, The Cigar Box OKC and Flux Salon have both pledged 10% of all product sales from the whole day to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. So whether you join us for cigars, for the good cause or just because you want to see how weird I look with short hair, we look forward to seeing you there!

July is always an exciting time for Cigars. July means its time for the International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers Association’s (IPCPR) trade show. This is a show held once a year for manufacturers to showcase their line to retailers and announce any upcoming blends or other products. Our fearless leaders, Blair and Nancy, have only just arrived from said show and brought back some brand new cigars and accessories. For starters, the Cigar Box is now a certified Vector Dealer. Vector manufactures a wide range of premium lighters all backed by their famous No Proof Warranty. On the Cigar side, you can expect to see many new brands popping up in the humidor. We will be bringing in La Flor Dominica, Kristoff, Diesel, La Galera and many more premier cigar lines. On top of new brands, you can expect to see an expansion of many of our current lines.

For this post I smoked the Camacho Liberty Series 2017. This is the 15th release of Camacho’s annual limited edition cigar. Released two weeks before the 4th of July, this cigar is meant to be celebratory cigar built to honor the birth of the United States. This year’s edition does not disappoint. Firstly, the presentation is superb. Each Liberty comes encased in its own numbered cedar coffin. Inside the coffin is beautiful dark mocha colored super toro. The wrapper is Ecuadorian Habano with very prominent veins. The binder is Honduran Corojo and the filler is Nicaraguan Corojo ’99 and Dominican Piloto Cubano. This marks the first time Camacho has used Nicaraguan Corojo ’99 tobacco and their website states that this is the most Nicaraguan filler they have ever used. The result is a fantastic, rich and meaty smoke. Upon first light the cigar produces a sweet earthiness with notes of black pepper in the throat. The pepper slowly ramps up until the second third where creamy cocoa flavors begin to take over. This cigar is medium to full bodied, but I find it very approachable. There were only 50,000 of these cigars made, so they won’t always be around. But while they are, I am going to smoke as many as I can.
