Two Year Anniversary!

Hello Cigar Fans! Things are better than ever here at the Cigar Box. Thank you to every one who made it out to our 2-year anniversary last month! We celebrated with great deals on Leaf by Oscar Cigars and our first ever Pint Night. “Island Jim” Robinson, founder of Leaf by Oscar and Island Jim Cigars, was kind enough to travel all the way from Pennsylvania just to be with us on this occasion. If you missed out on the festivities or are eager for more, we will be holding our second Pint Night on Friday the 27th beginning at 5pm. COOP Ale Works will be bringing in their new Grapefruit F5 IPA. Order a pint and the glass is yours to keep! Supplies are limited so be sure to arrive early!

This week I am smoking a cigar from one of our newest brands, The La Galera 1936 Box Press from Indian Heads. Jose Arnoldo “Jochy” Blanco III created this cigar to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Tabacalara Palma factory, which was opened by his father in 1936. This cigar looks as if it’s 80 years in the making. It is a stunningly perfect box pressed robusto with large and intricately detailed bands covering well over half of the cigar. In 2007 Jochy handpicked the tobaccos that would eventually be used for this blend then stored them in an aging room until the time is was right. A decade later and we get to enjoy his meticulous work to its fullest potential. The blend consists of an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, Dominican Criollo ’98 Binder and a filler of Dominican Piloto Cubano and Criollo ’98. Upon first light there is a cocoa sweetness with some pepper in the retrohale. As I continue to smoke the pepper begins to subdue, making way for a nice cedary finish. This final third is mostly earthy tones and cocoa with a slight reemergence of pepper. Over all I have found this to be a nice edition to my rotation in the medium to full range.

As I mentioned earlier we recently celebrated 2 years of business here at the cigar box. I want to thank each and every one of you who has made our success possible. In that time we have been able to maintain an employee turnover rate of virtually 0, nearly double our inventory and bring in some of the biggest names in the industry to our store. We have held cookouts, watch parties, birthdays, retirement parties and even one wedding reception. Most importantly we have engrained ourselves into our community. It has been a pleasure getting to know and work with all of you great people. We look forward to many, many more years serving you!

As always thank you for reading! Be sure check our Facebook and Events page for updates on our upcoming events.

See you at the Box
